Migration

SAP version 15.5 is the final release for ME and MII. Mainstream maintenance ends in 2027, with extended support running through December 31, 2030. SAP Digital Manufacturing is the cloud successor. This is not a direct copy-paste upgrade; it is a systems redesign you can control if you start now.

Your target architecture depends on your footprint. Standard MES operations map directly to SAP Digital Manufacturing. Heavy custom logic in MII usually rebuilds cleanly on SAP BTP. Most plants use a mix of both.

Timeline

Do we always move everything to SAP DM?

No. Standard MES footprints go to DM. Heavy custom MII rebuilds on BTP. Most plants use a hybrid approach determined by fit-gap.

Can we migrate without stopping production?

Yes. Phased coexistence keeps your existing systems live while you validate a single line before rolling it out plant by plant.

What about shop-floor connectivity?

We deploy software-defined edge layers like OPC UA and MQTT so you are not forced into an expensive hardware refresh.

How do we start?
